Our Story
Welcome to Blue Ocean Vacation Rentals, where we provide supreme service to our Island visitors with top rated vacation homes & condos, as well as the best management services to our property owners and partners. Our journey began as realtors with a few real estate clients who purchased an investment property but had no idea how to run a short-term rental for themselves. In 2020, we decided to create a new property management company to better facilitate our client’s needs for making money with those investments. Since then, we’ve been dedicated to providing the best service to those owners and growing from 8 properties to over 60 today!

At BOVR, our mission is clear: Provide the best value and experience for those coming to South Padre on vacation, while providing our owners the peace of mind knowing their investments are in good hands. We strive to be one of the best full-service management companies for the Island.

Our Team
Co-founders Rosa Hands and Rod Hunter are a husband-and-wife team that both have a passion for customer service, excellence and being a “stickler” for details. We believe that BOVR is a family run and family-oriented business that has deep roots and continued compassion for our local community.
Rosa is originally from Puerto Rico, moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to work with corporate American Express Travel Related Services. In late 1999, she came to South Padre Island looking for a Puerto Rico-like blue ocean and never looked back. Rosa moved permanently to the Island in 2003 to pursue a new and promising career in real estate, working for Re-Max and Keller Williams before creating what is today the Blue Ocean Realty Group in 2020.
Rod is a native of Brownsville, TX and moved to the Island with his Mom in 1978. After graduating from the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen in 1982, he served 8 years in the US Navy. After his service to the country, he continued to serve his local communities (in Connecticut and Texas) as a firefighter and EMT and eventually a Public Safety Police & Fire dispatcher for over 20 years, having worked with the Austin TX Police Dept and the South Padre Island Police Dept. He then followed his passion for photography by opening his own gallery and providing real estate and family services here on the Island. He gained a real estate license in 2018 and helped Rosa start the Blue Ocean Realty Group in 2020.

Rod and Rosa both realized later in 2020 that the property management business was growing fast and decided to split off from Blue Ocean Realty Group and start Blue Ocean Vacation Rentals.
